Android 16 Rolls Out
Android 16 is now rolling out to eligible Pixel devices, beginning with the Pixel 6 series and newer. It brings a host of under-the-hood improvements, including enhanced privacy controls, USB port locking when the phone is off, and a refined lock screen. One of the most notable additions is Live Updates, which displays real-time tracking info—like food deliveries or rides—right on the lock screen and status bar.
Also included is a new Battery Health monitor, which shows your battery’s estimated health percentage and charging cycle information. However, this feature is currently only available on Pixel 8a and later models, excluding the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
Pixel VIPs Widget
The all-new Pixel VIPs widget makes it easier than ever to stay close to your most important contacts. This button on the home screen lets users pin up to eight people and shows their recent calls, texts, planned events, and even their live location. Plus, it works with apps like WhatsApp and Calendar, and some VIPs can get around Do Not Disturb mode.
It’s also useful for both personal and business ties because you can store shared memories or make notes next to each contact.
AI Stickers with Gboard + Pixel Studio
Creative people and AI are coming together at Google in this drop. Pixel Studio is now built into Gboard, so users can make their own stickers using hints or even photos from their gallery. Gboard makes a unique sign in seconds based on your mood or idea. For example, you could say “birthday celebration.”
This tool can be used on the Pixel 9 and later models, and it adds a new level of expression to texting and calls.
