Airtel Network Disruption in India: Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata Face Major Outages

Sunday, August 24, 2025, was a day to be remembered by Bharti Airtel, which is one of the largest telecommunication providers in India, when there was a major network failure that cut mobile and internet connectivity in several cities. Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata were some of the worst affected areas, and thousands of users experienced problems with their calls and the data on their mobile connections and complete service outages. This is the second time in a week major interference was inflicted on Airtel, with doubts arising on network stability and communication with customers. Among the cities it impacted were Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Surat, and Ahmedabad, with 51% of its users receiving no signal, 32% experiencing mobile internet connectivity problems, and 17% a complete blackout. Until 1:00 PM services started to gain, and more than 150 users complained about the problems by 4:00 PM.
Airtel Cares, which is the customer support handle run by the company, citing a temporary connectivity disruption, stated that the services would be restored within an hour. Their recommendation was that a customer should restart their phone to have connectivity again. Although services were largely up and running again in the early afternoon, the incident did provoke anger among users, many of whom took to the social media site in order to express their anger.
