Microsoft Unveils Redesigned Windows 11 Start Menu: A Blend of Familiarity and Functionality

Microsoft has worked together with hundreds of enthusiastic Windows users to create the new Start Menu that is included in Windows 11. According to the company, the improvements to the Start Menu are mostly about improving how it looks and not about how it functions. The redesign seeks to improve how the site works and how quickly users can find what they are looking for.
Four design principles were followed by Microsoft to drive this transformation: Use Apps at a Glance to speed up your work day, appreciate the iPhone icon, and add your own personal touch. They are aimed at making things more visible, allowing for personalization, and helping users complete their jobs quicker, all while following the standard ways the app is used.
There are now three All Apps views in the new Start Menu, and they include a grid view with the applications you use most. Those who enjoy the traditional way can always turn on the A-Z list or the categories view to get the look they are used to.
The recommendations system from Microsoft is improved as well. Real-time actions by users help the Start Menu to recommend and show content that fits them. Importantly, you are able to hide any recommendations that you don’t want to see. Users can also use toggle settings to choose if they want more pinned apps, more recommendations, or an even mix of both options.
The updated Start Menu has been checked by Microsoft against a range of hardware, from the Surface Go all the way up to 49-inch ultrawide monitors, making sure its experience stays consistent on different screen sizes.
By the end of the month, Windows Insiders should start receiving the redesigned Start Menu. Yet, Microsoft has not revealed the launch date for this new feature.
