WhatsApp to Add ‘Mute’ and ‘Camera Off’ Options for Calls

WhatsApp is trying new tools that will make sound and video calls on Android better. WABetaInfo says that the Meta-owned platform is working on tools that will let users turn off their camera and mute their microphone before taking a call. This will give users more privacy and control during talks.
The microphone stop feature was found in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.10.16, which lets users turn off their microphone before answering a voice call. This can help keep the call from being interrupted or interrupted by noise while it’s connecting.
When someone calls you on video, WhatsApp is also working on a choice that will show up and say “Turn off your video.” This way, they can join in voice-only mode instead of having the front-facing camera turn on as soon as they answer. Users may see a second offer called “Accept without video” if the camera is already turned off.
This tool is similar to privacy controls on Zoom and Google Meet, and it’s a nice change for people who like to take their time with video calls or set up their cameras ahead of time.
Another function that is being tested is the ability to use emojis during video talks. With these, users could reply in real time with things like a thumbs-up, a heart, or laughing. This would make talks more emotional without cutting off the speaker. This is very helpful on group calls where speaking could stop the flow of the talk.
These changes are part of WhatsApp’s ongoing work to make the app better for users and protect their privacy. The platform recently added a feature called “Silence Unknown Callers,” which instantly mutes calls from numbers that aren’t saved in your contacts. You can still see these calls in the call log, even though they don’t ring.
Right now, the new mic, camera, and response features are only available to some beta users through the Google Play Beta program. There isn’t yet a set date for when they will be available to everyone. But the fact that they’re in the latest beta versions says that a wider release might be on the way soon.
Video and voice talks are becoming more and more important for everyday contact, especially for people who work from home or hang out with friends. These updates come at a good time. WhatsApp wants to make conversations easier, more private, and more fun by giving users better call settings and creative tools.
